What size should I choose for a lampshade?

The key to choosing the right size: proportions. You must maintain harmony between your lamp base and your lampshade. Width / diameter of the lampshade Aim for ≈ 2× the width/diameter of the widest base of your lamp base Rectangular exception : you can reduce it slightly (≈ 10–15%) to keep an elegant look Lampshade height Aim for ~40% of the total height (base + shade) Simple memo: ~1/3 of the total height works very well

Choose the inside of the lampshade: white, transparent, gold or copper?

The interior (polyphane/PVC) structures the fabric, protects from the heat of the bulb and modulates the diffusion. White Interior : the most versatile rendering, even and soft diffusion ; the light passes through the fabric for a warm effect, without being dazzling. Transparent Interior : it preserves exactly the color of the fabric inside and out and lets a little more flow through; the thickness of the fabric limits glare, so don't worry about a "too transparent" effect. If you don't want any transparency , choose white or gold . Matte Gold Interior : At Chamade we chose matte gold to avoid the overly shiny "cheap" look. Gold brings a luxurious touch, a warmer and more enveloping light. Looks great with black & gold , navy and other sophisticated colors. Copper interior: In the same spirit as the gold. Very beautiful light and diffusion. Ideal for recalling copper/brass elements already present. Choose according to the mood: white = versatile , transparent = color fidelity , gold/copper = premium feel .

How to clean and maintain a lampshade?

Unplug the lamp and remove the shade. Dust regularly with an anti-static duster or the “brush” attachment of a vacuum cleaner (low power). For pleats , a blast of cold air (hair dryer) or a soft brush between the pleats is very effective. Fabric/linen : barely damp microfiber + warm soapy water (dab without soaking), air dry. Velvet : very soft clothes brush (in the direction of the hair) or adhesive roller . In case of stains, dab with a slightly damp cloth, then restyle the velvet; avoid rings and pressure. Suede (microfiber) : soft brush or microfiber; for a stain, lukewarm water + a drop of soap, dab then dry quickly to avoid marks. Rattan/wicker : soft, slightly damp brush, wipe then dry immediately . Interior of the polyphane/PVC lampshade : microfiber + soapy water, without solvents/alcohol/abrasives . Prevention : choose LED bulbs (less heat) If the fabric or the polyphane/PVC interior has yellowed or is too worn, it is irreparable : it is better to replace the lampshade . To do this, extend the geometry of the base of your lamp base:

Round base → Cylindrical or conical lampshade

Square base → Straight square or square pyramid lampshade

By default, our lampshade frames are designed for E27 sockets (the “27” corresponds to the diameter of the bulb base in millimeters).

If your lamp is E14 , no problem: we can add an E27 → E14 adapter which reduces the opening of the frame and allows you to use your lampshade on an E14 socket.

Simply let us know when ordering (note to seller) or by email , and we will include it with your shipment.

In summary: E27 by default , E14 on request with adapter.

Just remember to check the type of socket your lamp has before finalizing your choice.

For a ball lamp base, choose shapes that extend the curve: cylindrical or conical .

The straight cylinder offers a designer and contemporary look with even diffusion around the sphere.

The cone remains the classic and versatile value: it fits anywhere, “without risk”, and creates a very elegant downward-directed light effect , ideal on a side table or bedside table.

In terms of proportions, keep your reference points to maintain balance:

Diameter ≈ 2× the width of the base of the stand and height ≈ 1/3–40% of the total height (stand + shade).

On a round foot, we remain in the continuity of the curves with a cylindrical or a conical one .

The cylinder gives a designer and contemporary look with uniform diffusion all around.

The cone is the versatile and warmer option: it refines the silhouette and directs the light downwards, creating a beautiful lighting effect. Perfect for a bedside table or reading corner.

So choose according to the desired effect:
Cylindrical = modern and clean ,
Conical = versatile and cozy .

In case of breakage , we will replace your lampshade : simply report it to reception with a few photos.

For diameters greater than 45 cm , delivery must be made to your home (Mondial Relay does not accept these dimensions): small charges may apply, but we cover part of the cost to guarantee receipt in the best conditions.

And if you don't like the lampshade, the color isn't right, or the size isn't right, you have a flexible 30-day return policy : just return the lampshade to us in its original condition and we'll refund or replace it if you prefer.

What shape should I choose for my white lampshade?

The first step is to determine which lamp you will place the lampshade on, taking into account the shape of its base.

1) If your lamp base is square or rectangular:

It is best to opt for lampshades with right angles.

For what ?

Because it allows you to follow the natural lines of your lamp and create visual harmony.

We advise you to go towards:

You can see that a rectangular lampshade is naturally harmonious with the rectangular lamp base.

A round or conical lampshade would make less sense in this case.

The same goes for a square lamp base. Naturally, a square lampshade is more appropriate. You could also imagine a pyramid-shaped lampshade.

2) If your lamp base has a round base

Choose round lampshades.

Again, the idea is to follow the natural lines of your lamp to create harmony.
